Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
I have been doing this for years but finally got around to recording it.
For those of you not familiar with "bump-firing" it is the use of a gun's recoil and a particular grip method to simulate full-auto fire with a semi-automatic weapon. Being that I use no external or internal mechanism, this is totally legal and quite entertaining. I have personally done this successfully with AK-47's using 75 rounds drums as well as 30 round magazines as I did in this video. In addition, I have successfully bump-fired most centerfire rifles including AR-15, SKS, FAL, M1As, etc. One point I would like to articulate, there is NO TACTICAL use for this since it is difficult to do in a prone position or while moving. Good clean fun, but a waste of ammo, and doesn't improve the shooter's skills at all.

Interesting story, I was at the range and like clockwork one of my friends wants me to drop a mag down range before we leave. Well this time, there are about 10 young 18 to 20 year olds several positions down from us. Any ways, I burn through a mag and immediately thew swarm around me thinking I have a full auto. I explain to them it is not and it is just a technique. One of them gives me the typical "no way dude" so I said "if you don't believe me, hand me your AK (it was a SAR) and I will do it worth yours." Well he hands me the weapon and like most weapons I have to get a feel for it so the first 3 rounds went then I stopped and then dumped the other 27 rounds. Naturally their eyes lit up and spent the next 10 minutes using up ALL of their ammo trying to do what I did. By this time I was packed up and ready to leave. They noticed I had several cases of ammo and one asked if I would sell them some. :D Well, about a 1,000 rounds later I made enough two buy back another 3,000 rounds! I made a good profit and they all had a great time, so not a bad day! Dave |

Hah, well I guess there is an up-side to everything! :) Very good technique shown there actually, that seems faster than a regular full auto! |
Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
The only thing I can picture is Barbara Boxer showing this video to some Senate subcommittee after proposing the next semiautomatic assault weapons ban.
Wolves are migrating back west out of the Caucasus into Europe. Only a matter of time before our own wolves, coyotes and big cats come back... bad news for anyone with goats or sheep. Every new stupid gun law is going to make it harder to hit running predators, especially the ones who hunt in packs. Can you aim that thing while you're firing it? :D Refine that technique until you can mow down coyotes and I'll hire you to train me... |
Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
Dave, can you explain the technique?
|
Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
Bump-firing made easy...

You will quickly learn that there is a balance you have to achieve when pulling the weapon forward. If you pull it too hard or too soft you will only get one shot off. When you are in proper balance you will burn through a mag without stopping. You will notice a lot of people will get 3, 5, 9 round burst since they are either over or under compensating. I have found that weapons pretty much have a "rate of fire" and there is really no way to adjust how fast it will fire with your technique. I have found AKs have anywhere from a 400 to 800 rps rate where I can achieve higher rates with AR-15s 900+ rps. I have seen a lot of people use the "trigger finger through the belt loop" technique but would advise against it since you overall have less aim control over the weapon. I personally have been practicing using this technique from the shoulder and from the prone position though it is significantly more difficult and would recommend against it as first timers. Over all, when you get pretty good at it, you can have surprisingly good aim. I personally have no problem maintaining an 18 inch target area at 75 yards. Not bad for bump-firing. Dave |

Great shooting Dave!
When I can manage to do an entire clip it's all over the place... too bad the price of ammo is likely to curtail much more bump practice ;) |
Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
:D I love new ideas. I will definitely give the rubber band technique a try.
Thank you for the YouTube! Dave |

Heh. Yeah love the sound of the M1 Garand. He pointed it downward first I notice and let the recoil push it upright. Might get an ejected clip in the face doing that though. |
Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
dude, that rubber band idea was worth the price of admission this evening.
fur sure. |

Re: Have you bump-fired your rifle before?
I think if I tried this at my local range I would get tackled, then tased, then handcuffed and my stuff would be confiscated. Then the BATF would raid my house and all my guns would be tested for rate of fire and I would pass but in the process my stuff would be destroyed and I would have to make friends with an attorney. I need a gravel pit!
